Audiobook addict.

Merit badge: MP3 player with book image on the display screen

It started innocently enough.

A little something to keep you relaxed during a seven-hour drive. Where’s the harm in that?

You were so naive!

Soon you were gorging on audiobook after audiobook while you jogged. Sneaking hits of podcast novels on your lunch break… and then in your cubicle. Eventually, you even started listening to books with your kids.

You used to say you could quit any time you wanted. But now…? Now the only thing you’re sure of is earning the “audiobook addict” merit badge.

Part of the merit badges for readers series. The badge may be posted on your site or blog. Tell us why you’ve earned (or will never earn) it in the comments.

Sadly, I will never earn this one. I like the weight of a book in my hands; the feel of the pages when I turn them. I like letting my mind ‘create’ the sound of the character’s voices.

I’m generally a high tech individual, but when it comes to books, I’m a Luddite.

Can I also use this one if I’m a PODCAST addict? How about if all the podcasts I’m addicted to are about books/writers/writing?

@CKHB: Yeah– I’d say that all falls within the same general realm of addiction!

Not so much a fan of audio books, but Dad always used to listen to them on his commute. Every time I’d go somewhere with him, he’d have a book playing. Had some good times that way.
