It’ll be autumn before you know it, so let’s practice for school with a multiple-choice question.
How did you earn your “summer reading”* merit badge?
A) Burning through page-turners at the beach
B) Catching up on the To Be Read pile while the kids play Marco Polo
C) Chillin’ out maxin’ relaxin’ all cool with your books for next year’s English class in front of the air conditioner
D) None of the above
E) It’s not even summer in my hemisphere
This is part of the merit badges for readers series, and may be posted on your site or blog. Have you earned this badge? Will you never earn it? Tell us why in the comments.

*If you missed the post this weekend: yes, we’re doing reading merit badges now. And yes, the writing merit badges will keep going as well. The walrus explains all.

I love that you’re doing reading badges now! Not sure I get to take this one, though. Most of my summer reading has been non-fiction, because I’ve needed to research for my WIP. I find it hard to read fiction and write intensively at the same time, but I may be able to work in something fun before the end of the summer!
This has been the summer of no money for me (and my poor little local library has not the biggest collection
so sad!), so I’ve spent it going back through all my favorites – as well as a few oldies-but-goodies that my dealer – I mean enabler – I mean my FATHER has been good enough to supply me with!
@caitpeterson: My summer reading has been saved (and not for the first time) by the fact that I’m hooked into more than one of the best library systems in the country. I’m so lucky in that regard.
I miss my library back home so much! The libraries in Utah have NOTHING on the libraries in Northern Virginia. It also helped that Dad has been on a first name basis with every library in the county since I was a kid. I want to be a billionaire just so I can give these libraries out here some help!
Is that a picture of the Bard in sunglasses on the back of the book? Surf’s up, Shakespeare!
@Casey: You’re in charge of finding all the tiny pictures.
