I am proud to say that I dressed up for the Harry Potter release parties. When I got Deathly Hallows, the only reason I didn’t finish it on the way back from the bookstore was because it was dark in the car.
One of my proudest crafting moments was on the occasion of a book release party. I was on a road trip with my kid when the sixth Harry Potter book came out. She wanted to go to the release party — of course! (Why didn’t I anticipate that? D’oh.) — so I found her a book store with a party. Yay!
She wanted a costume — of course! (Why didn’t I anticipate that? D’oh.) — so… what to do? We were traveling light, and had neglected to bring any wizarding attire.
Next to the book store was a fabric shop — providence! I purchased inexpensive black fabric, cheap scissors, and fabric glue. A little finagling in the parking lot (I basically cut out a T and glued seams to make the arms) and voila! Wizard kid!
She made a wand at the party, and rocked the trivia game. It was awesome fun!
anwa, I’m proud of you too! Costumes are fab! Seeing everyone’s lovely costumes was one of my favorite parts of the HP release parties. (We went to the seventh one as well, a bit better prepared.)
@anwa: Next time: flashlight.
@Casey: Crafty mom for the win!
I dressed up for the 7th HP too (funny that everyone seems to have gone to those!), and then finished half the book while waiting for my brother to get his copy (he had pre-ordered VERY late, and hence did not get to play!)
