Merit badge: book in flask being distilled into smaller book in smaller flask

That research badge yesterday sounded like a lot of work. Let’s do something simpler today.

All you need to do to earn the “synopsis” merit badge is distill your entire book down to its very essence and make it fit on a couple of pages.

Piece. Of. Cake.

After all, it’s always easier to write less than it is to write more. Right?

This is part of the merit badges for writers series, and may be posted on your site or blog. Have you earned this badge? Will you never earn it? Tell us why in the comments.

Whenever an agent has “synopsis” as one of his requirements along with a standard query letter, I just move on down the list. I’m so lazy :)

Oh yeah, piece of cake. I look at this one and cringe. Research is nothing compared to brevity + clarity! I’m hoping my (continuously updated) outline will help me when I get to this stage.

Love the book to tiny book distillation image.

I love the image on the badge itself for this one. Way cool. And I think I can do it, but is it wrong to use established works in your Synopsis? Like Star Wars meets A Knights Tale as an example. (Just first movies I saw on my DVD shelf, you all get what I mean)
