Shine.

Merit badge: shining diamond

On your way from the first draft to the final draft you’ll want to earn the “shine” merit badge.

All it takes is a little discipline.

So come on, people: make that prose tight enough that you can bounce a quarter off of it. And your proofreading should be clean enough to serve dinner on. You’re not done polishing that manuscript until you can see your reflection.

Now drop and give me twenty pages of line edits! 1… 2… 3… 4… 5… 6…

This is part of the merit badges for writers series, and may be posted on your site or blog. Have you earned this badge? Will you never earn it? Tell us why in the comments.

@LCD: Honesty now just means you’ll feel that much prouder once you’ve earned it.

Or just grab it when no one’s looking.

    Either way.
