As mentioned in Saturday’s recap post, this week is a theme week. The theme? You.
Or your requests, anyway. This week will be made up of badges that have been asked for either in the request post comments or on Twitter. Because when I say I’m making a note of your suggestions on Twitter, I actually am. Even if you’re kidding.
And speaking of Twitter, we’ll also have an audience participation game this week. Watch @meritblog on Twitter, and a couple times a day (randomly repeated for timezone equity) you’ll see me ask for a specific type of suggestion using the #badgeimprov tag. Reply back with anything you want. Daily suggestions from the audience will be mushed together into a merit badge for next week. I know you guys are a creative lot, so this has the potential to end very badly for me! Hooray!
HEY, MAYBE WE SHOULD ACTUALLY TALK ABOUT TODAY’S MERIT BADGE NOW.
The “butt in chair, hands on keyboard” merit badge is goin’ out to Hillary. She asked for “a merit badge for when you force yourself to write when you’d really rather slack off or watch TV or something.” BICHOK is about making yourself sit down and do the work. No, hands on keyboard for the internet doesn’t count. Get back to work, slacker! (Except when you’re watching the Twitter feed, of course.)
This is part of the merit badges for writers series, and may be posted on your site or blog. Have you earned this badge? Will you never earn it? Tell us why in the comments.

Yes! At last a shiny reward to motivate me to unplug my wifi (to impede the typing on the internet) and tackle this new WIP with gusto. Playing shiny new game is much easier then battling my new main character.
*gasp* I love it!
I like how this one looks like a little technical diagram. I’ve had times when I’m great at this one, and times when I’m not. I really am getting better at writing no matter what, though. I have to think about this one. (I have already, in fact, downloaded it, for potential future stitching on. That is the direction I’m thinking in, here!)

[...] you just love that acronym? When I sound it out, it brings out my inner-twelve-year-old. Hee! Butt in Chair, Hands on Keyboard is the way to go. I have forced myself to write many times in the past few weeks, including today. [...]
