


Having your work criticized is kind of like getting underwear from your great-aunt for your birthday.
Maybe you don’t want it, but you really do need it.
Or maybe you don’t even need it, but once the wrapping paper’s been torn away making a scene won’t turn those tighty-whities into a PlayStation.
The “accepting criticism” merit badge: because sometimes in life you just have to smile and nod and not embarrass your parents in public.

Very cute! I hope I’ll be able to come back for it when I’m ready to show my work to anyone outside the immediate family. They are very . . . nice, so I don’t think their criticism counts!
If I finish my draft by the end of the summer, I’ll give it beta readers then — and we’ll see how I deal with it! (I’m actually pretty good about criticism, I think. I hope.)
If only your family were meaner! Then you wouldn’t have to wait.
